Voices of the Day: Kinetics & One Love (feat. Nitty Scott, MC)

Kinetics and One Love recently dropped this track, Any Means Necessary, showcasing both their talent and that of female progressive hip hop artist, Nitty Scott, MC. While I'm always happy to see new work from K&1L, Nitty Scott definitely shines on this track. Clearly laying out her message, Nitty Scott focuses on grassroots music, making her way through the music industry without taking any shortcuts. Her lyrical dexterity and attitude carry her as a credible artist. In short, this is an awesome collaboration.

Voices of the Day: Kinetics feat. Accent

New music from Unheard Undergrad favorites, Kinetics and Accent! The two collaborate in a clever lament for This is Not a Love Song. Produced by DJ Big Red (of another favorite, Radical Something) and One Love. Pretty sick beat...

Voices of the Day: Kinetics & One Love

Get ready for Cross-Fading Back to Normal, Kinetics and One Love's upcoming mixtape, with the most recent leak; Video Game, a remix of Lana Del Ray's indie track with vocals from Kinetics. The combination makes for an interesting contrast between Kinetics' edgy rapping and Lana Del Ray's low and smooth hook.

Voices of the Day: Accent

It's no secret that I'm a huge fan of Kinetics, who rides on top of the rap game with a distinctive flow and intelligent lyrics. Which brings me to Accent, a Manhattan based rapper of comparable talent who dropped Runaround feat. Kinetics (beat by french producer, Onra) today.

This is the first music I've encountered from Accent, who is also rhythmic poet, but Runaround is a down-tempo track that effectively showcases the lyrical talent of these two artists. A simple but catchy hook ties it together into a very listenable song that promises more for his upcoming mixtape: The Conception Mixtapes Vol. 2/3: I Love Nujabes. It looks like we can expect a lot better than standard from Accent.

Voices of the Day: Radical Something

I can't say for sure how this group ended up in my iTunes, I must have been impulse downloading, but you'll have to trust my instincts on this one. In listening through their album (dropped last week), We Are Nothing, I'm sorry that I'm even a week late on the newest Radical Something.

Producing ultimate chill out tracks, Radical Something set themselves apart from the game of frat rap with original hooks soulfully sung by Josh Cocktail, rapping by Loggy and production by Big Red. The group adds another level with well-layered harmonies and a feel good message that makes you want to sing along. Truly impressive work, just take a listen.

Favorite tracks so far: Gonna Be Good, Be Easy (feat. Kinetics), Freedom

When listening to this artist I want to: Be outdoors, chill with friends, RELAX

One more thought: Radical Something feels like a west coast version of Unheard Undergrad favorite, Aer

Voices of Cornell University: Kinetics and One Love

It turns out the Ivy League has more to offer than one would expect. Kinetics and One Love, a New York based hip hop/electronic duo, got together in 2006 at Cornell University. Their album, Fading Back to Normal, debuted in 2009.

Although, they're not new to the game, their new single Sign Language is what really grabbed my attention. Rapper, Kinetics, has a lyrical style much like that of Immortal Technique and is simply lacking in the aggression that Immortal Technique has made his own. Kinetics' flow is much smoother and evenly coats the electronic beats that One Love provides. The sound is unique, it's fresh and the message challenges the norm. Sign Language is about a girl and a boy, just your normal Romeo and Juliet...except Juliet is deaf. Listen to it until the end, the story is gut wrenching.

Kinetics and One Love depart from this more serious note in several other songs such as Breakup Sex, Horny Girl, and Halley's Comet. If you liked the sound of Sign Language, Halley's Comet is the track for you. If you're more into Dub Step and appreciate a House and Hip Hop mashup here and there, Breakup Sex and Horny Girl have something to offer for you.

I'd say these guys are worth a listen. They have a little bit of something for everyone.

Other artists they remind me of: Kid Cudi, Drake, Gorilla Zoe
I would listen to them when: I'm about to go out, I'm in the car, I'm dancing around my room.
I would recommend them to: Frat boys, College students in general, anyone looking for something a little bit different.
