Voices of Syracuse University: IMG
Maplewood, New Jersey native, IMG is a sophomore at Syracuse University. He was signed to Shadyville Records and released a mixtape, The Movement in April of 2010. IMG is clearly targeting fans of mainstream hip hop. It seems as if he's trying (and trying hard) to emulate the style that Eminem built a career on.
His lyrics are lacking in finesse, intricacy, and any substantial one or two liners that really catch your attention. His voice seems to lack that natural edge that many rappers have, resulting in a "flow" that seems forced onto the mainstream appealing beats. Much, if not all, of his music is centralized on his appeal, how great he is and his popularity. His mix tape is not impressive and does not seem record label worthy. Granted, it is very early on in his career and there is still much he needs to learn and a lot more room to grow.
On a more positive note, as a live performer, IMG impresses. He is passionate, exhilarating, and commands the room. His performance made his music sound worth listening to. Would I recommend him to anyone with a good ear for music, probably not. I wouldn't write him off completely though. Check back in three years, IMG might evolve into something bigger than a kid with a hobby.
Other artists they remind me of: Early Eminem (If I had to)
I would listen to them when: my Itunes is on shuffle.
I would recommend them to: anyone who appreciates a catchy song.
