Voices of Nassau Community College: J. Ragnanan

Formerly known as Jae-R, J. Ragnanan just dropped his third album; 12 Steps to Ashes today.

J. Ragnanan is a rapper from Long Island, New York without much of an online presence. This, fortunately, has worked to his advantage.

J. Ragnanan has his eye on big picture hip hop, rather than what his college rapping peers are doing.

This is not college rap, I repeat, This. Is. Not. College. Rap.

Though, he's not going to college full time J. Ragnanan remains to be a hidden gem among Unheard Undergrads.

I've followed his music since his first album, and I've always seen his potential. J. Ragnanan has a voice perfectly tailored for smooth hip hop, reminiscent of Drake's style, and always has. In this album though, you can finally see his potential come through. But by no means, does this mean that J. Ragnanan's talents have peaked.

His career, if nothing else, is a chronicling of his growth as an artist. There's much more that he has to give, and in this album it becomes evident that J. Ragnanan will be a persisting presence in the music game.

J. Ragnanan had his humble beginnings in high school with a group of his friends, all interested in music. Together they created The Enterprise. Though, they performed at school shows, not much else was done to push through with their music. J. Ragnanan stuck with music long after the group, who are still very close, fell through.

Rapping right out of his room in a make-shift recording studio, (not like what you imagine, this studio has got the works), J. Ragnanan is all about his music.

He has a distinct style which is consistent throughout the album. My only fear is that it would be the same sound over and over. If you look at his work collectively, however, this fear is put to rest.

He offers something new to the rap game, for such a young artist. His album is full of smooth beats laced with a well delivered lyrical flow.

I'll include the DL link for his album. Show him some love and keep your eye out for this one. Look out for an upcoming interview and future album releases right here, on Unheard Undergrad.
