Voices of the Day: Fortune Family

Good things come to those who wait, so thanks for being patient.

Get ready for good news, because things always get just a little brighter when we hear new music from Fortune Family. Even though their second single, dropped today, is titled Living Dead (and actually begins with a sound bite from the 1968 zombie thriller), it brings the duo's style to life; twisting jazz, alternative and hip-hop into another form altogether.

It seems Fortune Family is dealing with some heavier issues on this track, making references to "so many shots to the head" and "walkin' like I'm livin' dead", reflected in a slightly darker tone than their earlier work on Paradox. However, they do not disappoint in making a seamless track with a solid beat and their characteristically mellow flow. It would be difficult to find a collaboration that functions better than Reef and Hobson, a step ahead of the others as we watch them develop on Unheard Undergrad. With a talent for mixing the old and the new, the two create a unique sound all their own.
