Voices of the Day: RE:GENERATION

Making the old into new, transforming existing creations into something different altogether; these are vital properties of music that are revered as innovation, yet at the same time highly controversial (just check out RIP! A Remix Manifesto). As styles like dubstep and mashups have become mainstream, the establishment, it seems, is now making an attempt to embrace sampling for its contribution to artistic value. Co-produced by the Grammy's, here is RE:GENERATION, a Hyundai sponsored documentary focused on fusing genres and the creative process. Each DJ involved is assigned a genre:

DJ Premier - Classical
Pretty Lights - Country
The Crystal Method - R&B
Mark Ronson - Jazz
Skrillex - Rock

These combinations make for completely unpredictable styles. Personally I'm excited for Skrillex + The Doors, mixing two genres that would most likely never meet otherwise, there's the potential for amazing music. I wonder how Skrillex will influence what members of the band call "The first new Doors track of the 21st century".

Basically; THIS IS GOING TO BE SICK
