Voices of University of Colorado: Brenton Duvall (DL link included)
Mashup fans, anyone? Brenton Duvall has graced the pages of Hype Machine, pretty much the gateway website for any up and coming artist or performer, on several occasions. As far as mashups artists go, Duvall has an immaculate ear for compatible songs.
Duvall, representing for the Class of 2013 at University of Colorado, focuses very heavily on hip hop and pop mashups. We're talking Wiz Khalifa meets Taylor Swift (who is technically country pop) in his newest mashup; Mean Planes and Taylor Gangs (DL link). In this track Duvall's ability to meticulously sew together a seamless collaboration shines through. Mash ups are not easy to create and good mash ups are even harder. Duvall, however, seems to conquer the difficulty of this art.
Unlike hip hop artists, mash up artists can't really be judged by lyrical quality and innovation. The standards for mash up artists are all about how well they make different songs flow together, some artists do too much and create a messy if not entirely incompatible mix. Duvall does just what he needs to do to make the songs sound like they were created to be mashed up.
Mash up artists can't be defined by one song either so I present to you (drum roll)... an entire playlist of Brenton Duvall mash ups. Mean Planes and Taylor Gangs isn't on it so I'll include that separately. Enjoy.
When listening to their music I think of: I don't know how relevant this is to Mash up artists.
Their music is best listened to when: you're at a party, put his songs on your college party playlist!
I would recommend this music to: Frat stars, college boys, mash up fans, fans of; White Panda, Super Mash Bros and Girl Talk
